I was up at 5:40 this morning. Actually, it was 5:36 a.m. – at that time of day, every minute counts. My 3-year old’s been waking up between 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. every day since last fall when the clocks “fell back.” I never had this problem with my older daughter, and I kept telling myself, “His natural sleep pattern will work itself eventually.”
No. No it didn’t. It NEVER did.
So, when he squawked at 5:36 a.m., which is just four minutes away from when my alarm goes off for the first time, and just 13 minutes shy of when my alarm goes off for the second time after hitting snooze, I had to pad down to his room and tell him, “It’s not time to get up yet. Lay down and go back to sleep.”
By then it was 5:40 a.m., and totally not worth crawling back into bed. So I got up, which is helpful because I can get lots of stuff accomplished and zone out to the morning news. Also, the boy was yelling again at 5:56 a.m., saying, “Did I do good falling back asleep, MOM?” So, it was good that I already had a cup of coffee and most of my wits about me for when it was really time to let him get up. (I’m no longer “Mommy” by the way, it’s “Mom” now – or more accurately, “MAWM.”)
I’m telling this story as if today’s experience is unique. It’s not. It’s been like this nearly every day since fall, except some days it’s 4:36 a.m. instead of 5:36 a.m. I mean it. I think a lot of folks assume I’m really dedicated and militant about getting up early. The truth is, I’m not. I’m forced to by my 3-year old.
I will say this, the one thing I’ve noticed in the 5 o’clock hour lately is that the birds are chirping – loudly. Lots of them! In an “It’s SPRING!” kinda way – and it’s rather nice. Also? It’s light before 6:30 a.m. Yay!
I’m ready for spring, even though we haven’t really had a winter to speak of in Maryland this year. We’ve been spoiled. I’m hoping that spring rolls right in with 70-degree weather that stays, rather than the typical Mid-Atlantic snow storm that can hit mid-March. Ugh.
Anyway, just in time for spring, my latest Houzz.com Ideabook is primed and ready to go:

What fun flower placemats for Spring. Thanks for the great pictures.
Amazing arrangements! That would look lovely on my bedside table. I wish I can develop the same craft but I just can’t find the time.
Contemplating on the designs, I feel that some of these place mat formats will look good as wallpaper on my room wall. Honestly, aside from being nice on the table, concepts such as these can be used for other purposes.
I’d just like to add to what vancouver painting said that those designs can also look good on modern furniture los angeles. Just make sure those furnitures are not on the living room.
These arrangements are really magnificent. Flowers can help you relax.
