October is a fun month – fall has arrived (finally!), Halloween makes it festive, and my youngest’s birthday is on the 26th!
This year Jack turns two, and his party is at the end of the month. Actually, it’s on Halloween, which happens to be the only free day for both sides of our family within weeks of his birthday. Thankfully he’s only going to be two, and creating a separation between HIS day, and a HOLIday isn’t super important yet.
So for the October Food Challenge, I want your help deciding what kind of cupcakes to make! I normally make a regular birthday cake, but I think it would be fun to do something different for this one, and aren’t cupcakes the “in” thing right now in baked goods?

I’m looking for some awesome flavor combos – not weird per say, because we actually want the kids to enjoy eating them. But, I also would love flavors other than standard chocolate and vanilla. Our family does not have any food allergies, but one set of grandparents has diabetes, so ideas that are sugar-free (preferably naturally, not with aspartame or sucralose) would be wonderful in addition to the standard sugary cake ideas!
What does Jack like? He loves fruit – specifically, berries – and he’s just a little obsessed with Mickey Mouse, Elmo, Sponge Bob, trucks and airplanes. I’m not looking for a character themed cupcake idea to go with a cool flavor combo, but am open to it.
You have until Sunday to suggest your favorite cupcake flavor combos in the comments here OR on my Facebook page, and then I’ll create a poll for my readers to vote!
The lime cake looks really good.

At a party I attended last week, someone made an awesome apple/cinnamon cupcake. I have no idea how she made it… but it was fantastic!
Toyin – I know, right? As soon as I saw it I wanted it immediately.
Tiffany – apple cinnamon would be perfect for this time of year! With some sort of crumble topping & a glaze. Mmmm…. You’d have to serve them warm, I think.
How about yellow sea sponge flavored cupcakes with pink starfish flavored frosting! With a squid garnish on top.
LOL – how does one make a “yellow sea sponge” flavored cake? 😛
