There are lots of great food holidays in October, including some oddities like National Chocolate Covered Bugs Day. (Ew!)
The one I’m most intrigued with this month, however, is National Oatmeal Day. I know, you’re probably like, “Really? Oatmeal day excites you?” Yes, it does. It’s the small things.
I’ve heard of a few great recipes for oatmeal – baked, slow cooker, stove top – but haven’t really tried my hand at many home cooked oatmeal preparations, except for stove top with milk and cinnamon + sugar.
When the weather’s cold, I love a warm bowl of oatmeal in the morning. The cafeteria at my day job has oatmeal for cheap, and last winter I bought it daily with a scoop of brown sugar and a splash of whole milk. (The best $1.11 spent, ever.)
This winter I’d love a good homemade recipe that I can bring into work each morning. I’m on the hunt!
