What is it about summer that makes reading seem so much more inviting?
I have a long list of books I’ve been waiting to start, and vacation seems like the best place to dig in!
Just like the dead of winter, hot and steamy summer days make me want to read.
I’m guessing it has to do with wanting to be inside, curled up on the couch and away from extreme weather.
This past week, Marylanders were faced with temps over 90°F. Before noon. By lunch grew to something ungodly … like 110°F.
Well, with humidity, because here just the heat isn’t enough. You have to be able to swim through the air.
What I’m hoping for, is that when we escape to the Finger Lakes in August, things get a little cooler.
And a little more relaxed. Because the other thing that makes me want to read is vacation.
One summer I was determined to finish Stieg Larson’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
I’d started it earlier that May, and only got about half-way through.
It was a slow read at first, but once I got to the middle it it picked right up. I couldn’t put it down while I was on vacation!
Whether it was the story-line or the vacation letdown, I don’t know, but it proved to be a great read.
This year I have a stack of books I’ve been meaning to read, and haven’t—or, I started for no other reason except life getting in the way, and poor planning on my part for carving out time.
I’m still mulling over which ones of the pile to bring.
Truth be told, I like everything from mindless vacation reads to more involved epic tales.
I digress.
So, here’s my list to pick from (some rereads)—which two or three would you choose?
